1965 Crown Coin Minted to commemorate the death of Sir Winston Churchill in 1965 in good circulated condition. The 1965 Churchill Crown was a circulating coin. It was made of cupro-nickel, as was customary at this time. Weighing 28.28 g, and measuring 38.61 mm, the Crown was worth a quarter of a pound sterling. It was a very popular coin with the general. Great Britian 1965 Winston Churchill Crown The obverse of the coin was reserved for the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Churchill’s bust and name appear with seemingly equal esteem on the reverse. It is the first and only pre-decimal British coin to feature an image of a non-monarch.

The Winston Churchill commemorative Crown was a large issue for a copper-nickel coin that really didn’t circulate. 9.64 million were produced. Their value is about US25 cents and they are no longer legal tender. There are a much smaller number of specimen strikes with a satin-finish. These coins are in higher relief and have a much different look than the regular issues. Value: about $500.
